Mountain biking in Denmark? Who would have thought?

I had some investors and crypto meetings in Copenhagen in the middle of dark and cold February. Last minute, I remembered that somebody from Denmark had offered me to ride with them if I ever came by Copenhagen. To tell the truth, in the beginning thought it was a joke. I mean, where can you even find a mountain or any serious elevation in the vicinity of Copenhagen? And in the middle of the bloody cold winter?

But adventurous as I was, I jumped on the offer. The guys that I was going to ride with was Bent and Morten, passionate riders and founders of the Singletracker App .

Like Clark Kent, I quickly jumped into a cab, got back to my hotel just in order to quickly get ride of that business suit and straight into my MTB Superman outfit before Bent & Morten picket me up.

We rode around 30 min before we reached out destination, MTB-Tours in Harekoven, the local trail center. I was really curious as to what kind of bikes we were going to take. To my positive surprise they had prepared a couple of fatbikes for us. Perfect given the muddy trail conditions.

I was quite excited as I had never ridden a fatbike before. Birger Kjærbye, the owner of MTB-Tours was really helpful in setting us up and we could change clothes and leave our stuff in his shop and are perfectly located in the middle of the Harekovens trail system.

It was really cold but it didn’t take long to work up some sweat. Hareskovens trail system is a XC-like system with many loops and cool obstacles in a beautiful beech forest. You could easily spend 3+ hours there, we started late so settled for 1 1/2 ride before it was getting dark. While we were riding, Morten demonstrated the Singletracker app for me. Thats the kind of pitch I like.

I must say that I was really surprised to have such a fun ride in so close to Copenhagen. I just wish we had more time to ride, but the darkness sets in early in Scandinavia during the winter.

Muddy Hell!

Singletracker App

Singletracker is an app that helps mountain bikers finding the best trails, local bike shop and nearby breweries and any other local information that a mountain biker might need. It also lets you support your local trails through donation and thus connect riders with landowners and the local ecosystem.

It is a really well done app with curated trail information and a real connection with local trail builders and landowners. I really like how they connect with the local ecosystem of MTB clubs, trail builders and landowners, letting riders support local trails. Currently, they are mostly covering Scandinavia and Germany but over the next year they are aggressively rolling it in other countries as well.

Tilt Detection System — Riding alone has never been safer!

But what really sets this app apart form anything else is the Tilt detection system. Tilt, is a sensor that you attach to your front wheel and any crash will automatically be detected, and start an intelligent rescue procedure. This is something I have been looking for a long time.

Tilt works by sending a direct alert to all Singletracker rider in the vicinity of your incident. It also sends a text message to your designated emergency contacts. All notified parties can see your precise position on a live map for easy navigation and rescue.

The Tilt Sensor

What is really smart about it is that the algorithms supporting the sensor are made by riders for riders, allowing you to jump and free-ride without false alarms. In this sense it is invisible to you until it really matters. Riding alone has never been safer!

The majestic entrance to Bryggeri Skovlyst.

After we finished our ride and got ourselves clean from all the mud, Morten and Bent took me for well deserved beers at Bryggeri Skovlyst, a very cool craft beer brewery, located in the middle of the forest and in the intersection of all the trails. Talking about a happy ending!

Raven, an great Danish IPA!

Bike ride, pitch & great beer. I’ll be there!

Riding with Morten and Bent was really fun and I am really grateful to them dragging me out in the cold muddy Danish winter. They certainly know how to pitch! This is how I like to pitched: Bikes, trails, a great product demo while we ride and some great beers at the end!

I strongly recommend you to go and download Singletracker to find great trails and other valuable information you’ll need for your next ride while at the same time supporting the local trail ecosystem.

In the absent of light, be(er) the light!

If you ever find yourself in Copenhagen and is looking for a ride. Look no further. Get yourself over to MTB Tours in Harekoven, rent a bike and let Singletracker show you the way!.
